Why Chad Daybells trial wont be live streamed on Monday
Boise, Idaho (CBS2) - The trial of Chad Daybell will not be live-streamed on Monday. This is to allow the parties to exercise their peremptory challenges and select the final jury for trial.
The State of Idaho Judicial Branch says a peremptory challenge is the ability for the parties to excuse a potential juror from serving on the case without the need to give a reason.
Idaho Criminal Rule 24 gives both parties a certain number of peremptory challenges.
All jurors who advanced through last week’s jury selection hearings will be present in court.
People who reserved seats using the courts reservation system will have a place to sit Monday. Any remaining seats will be offered for public access on a first-come, first-served basis.
Not having the livestream available Monday will ensure the jurors are not broadcast. The order applies only to Monday’s proceedings. All others will be live-streamed.
The courtroom on Monday is expected to open at 9:45 a.m. The process around the peremptory challenges is expected to take about an hour. Once the final jury is selected, the court session will be over for the day.
