WATCH: Manny Machado DESTROYS coolers in dugout to vent out frustration during Padres-Brewers game

The 2023 MLB season has given some surprises and shocks this season. Several big names have struggled to make an impact that was desired from them. One of these teams is the San Diego Padres. The NL West is also having a torrid season and the frustration was seen on Sunday. During their game with the Milwaukee Brewers, star man Manny Machado was seen destroying the coolers in the dugout.

Machado has established himself as a player who is always animated. He has not been shy of venting out his frustrations at some decisions. He has been ejected several times over arguing with the officials for violating the pitch clock rules. This time he took out his anger at the coolers kept in the dugout after a poor at-bat, late in the game.

The incident was recorded during the seventh inning of the game. The Brewers had taken the lead as they scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to go 9-4 up. Some poor pitching from relief pitcher Abner Uribe saw the Padres cut the lead to three at 9-6.

Before Machado stepped up the plate, Juan Soto was hitting. He hit a pop-out to shortstop Willy Adames. The Padres star man was unable to do anything better than Soto and hit a similar pop-out. This left him agitated and went on to take his frustration out on the coolers present in the dugout for the players. He would repeatedly hit the box with his bat before throwing his equipment away.

San Diego Padres’ ship starting to sink faster with each passing day

The San Diego Padres are one of the big names in MLB. While they have not tasted any success in the past two decades, they are still considered heavy favorites. Last season, despite finishing in the wild-card spot last year, they would stun their rivals Los Angeles Dodgers en route to the National League Championship Series. They though have been a complete shadow for their former self and their ship is sinking faster.

Sunday’s loss at the hands of the Brewers puts them at a record of 61-70. They are 20 games behind the Dodgers in the first place and eight games behind the third wild-card spot. After acquiring the services of Xander Bogaerts and the anticipated return of Fernando Tatis Jr. was supposed to drive them to a better finish than last season.

The harsh reality is that when the Superstars on your team play bad, you are probably not going to win a lot of baseball games.

The “Big Four” of Bogarets, Machado, Tatis Jr. along with Soto have failed to combine together. While Machado has had a much better season than his three teammates, the others have failed to perform with consistency. These players were thought of as taking the Padres to the next level. However, things have not turned out as the team planned.

Comparing them to the “rebuilding” Washington Nationals who have the same record (61-70), the Padres fans have the right to be angry with their team’s performance. It seems the team has run out of time to make a postseason post. The Seattle Mariners have made a huge comeback, so the optimism is still for the Padres. They will still need a little luck to turn things around at their current rate of performance.
