Suspect in Spokane toddler's death extradited from Idaho

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A man suspected of killing a 2-year-old girl in Washington state has made his first court appearance in the case, more than a month after his arrest at a cabin in Idaho.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Jason Obermiller had been fighting extradition from Idaho since his Sept. 20 arrest near Worley. But he finally appeared in Spokane County Superior Court on Monday, where he was charged with second-degree murder and ordered held on $1 million bond.

Obermiller is accused of killing Adalynn Hoyt, who died of a blow to the stomach. The 32-year-old suspect had been living with the girl's mother, Lovina Rainey, at the time.

Rainey was arrested a week after Obermiller was taken into custody for federal drug trafficking charges. She's remains jailed.
