'I just like to say thanks for the friendship'

Like they say, all good things come to an end.

That good thing is known as Hap Tallman Stockman Supply just off of Overland Road on the Boise Bench. The store is closing and will be auctioning off the remainder of its products over the next two days.

Carol Tallman manages the store, shes made chaps and leather gear at Hap Tallman for years.

"I've made hundreds and hundreds if not thousands of pairs of chaps in the last say 45 years or so," Carol said.

She was dating her now-husband Tim Tallman when her father-in-law Hap, offered her a job. The store opened in the 60s and was a feed and vaccine store. It evolved into the western lifestyle store complete with clothing, hats, boots, spurs and horse tack and tools.

"This was a two-lane oiled gravel road," Carol said. "We were on the edge of town, there were ranchers all around."

And all those years, Carol says she has cherished her customers the most.

"I just like to say thanks for the friendship and loyalty," Carol said.

Carol and Tim are looking to retire here in Boise to spend time with their family, including the owner of the store, Carol's mother-in-law who is in her 90s. She said now is just the right time.

"We've been trying to sell for a year but for one reason or another, it just didn't come together," Carol said.

So now an auction will be hosted this weekend so that the store items can find new homes.

The auction will take place on Nov. 22 and 23 at 10 a.m. at Hap Tallmans at 4410 W Overland Rd in Boise.
